| Dear Graduate:
CASE is proud to “own” you as one of its
graduates, whether you graduated from JSA, COA, PGTC
or CASE! As a member of the “Alumni Association”,
you are automatically a part of the rich heritage of
the former Farm School which began in 1910, became
the Jamaica School of Agriculture in 1942, and
College of Agriculture (COA) in 1982, as well as
Passley Gardens Teachers’ College (PGTC), which
opened in 1981 and, based on the recommendation of
the Sherlock Report, was merged with COA in 1995
thereby ushering in CASE – one of Jamaica’s premier
multi-disciplinary tertiary educational
institutions.
CASE has undergone tremendous changes over the
last 5 years. The following examples are
illustrative of these significant developments:
- A Deep Water Well has been sunk on the
campus, and has made the chronic water shortages
a think of the past.
- Student enrolment has steadily increased
resulting in a population of 1140 enrolled
during the current academic year.
- CASE now offers twelve (12) different
tertiary level programmes consisting of three
(3) Bachelors degree programmes, five (5)
Associate Degree programmes, and four (4)
Diploma programmes.
- The Associate of Science Degree programmes
in General Agriculture and Natural Science have
been formally accredited by the University
Council of Jamaica, the National Accreditation
Body.
- In response to the high demand for our
programmes, and in keeping with the new
educational paradigm, CASE now offers selected
programmes at off-site locations in St.
Catherine, Clarendon, St. Ann, and St. James.
- A team of students from CASE won the Life
Insurance Companies Association’s Vivian
Rochester Memorial Mathematics Competition.
- A team of students from CASE won first place
in the Jamaica Public Service Company’s Science
Fair, for an entry on the “Use of Mamey as an
Insecticide”.
- CASE is involved in collaborative research
with other organizations and academic
institutions, an example of which is a project
being done jointly with Northern Caribbean
University to investigate the commercialization
of Breadfruit.
- Faculty Members of CASE continue to give
public service to the wider community by serving
on school boards in the community as well as
serving in advisory capacities on many other
bodies.
- CASE has established and maintained
strategic alliances, and has signed memoranda of
understanding with several local and overseas
institutions and organizations, including Nova
Scotia Agricultural College, Canada, the
institution with which we jointly offer the
Bachelor of Technology Degree Programme.
- CASE has acquired a 100-acre commercial farm
at Spring Garden in Buff Bay, Portland, and is
now one of the leading producers in the parish
of export quality bananas and Sea Island cotton.
With all these exciting and significant
developments, CASE needs your support now more than
ever. As CASE grows and develops our need for
financial resources also increases. Therefore, we
are asking for your support to help us continue to
produce creative graduates, who will contribute to
our country’s development. You can choose to
designate your contribution to the scholarship and
bursary fund, the educational enhancement fund, or
any other activity of your choosing. Through your
contribution, CASE will be enabled to effectively
execute its mandate. Please invest in today’s
students and tomorrow’s leaders!
