Applied Associate of Science Degree in Business Studies Programme


This Applied Associate of Science Degree in Business Studies Programme has been developed to help prepare students to perform marketing, accounting, office administration and management functions in different organizations. This is a practical and theory based programme. It draws heavily from Business and Industrial Psychology, Communication, Economics, Information Technology and Data Analysis.


The Business Studies programme is offered over two years. However, students have a total of five (5) years in which to complete the programme. All students pursuing the programme, be it full time of part time, must complete all thirty six (36) credits offered in the first year of the programme. In the second year students are required to do the core courses along with the courses that falls under the specialization selected. The areas of specializations are Accounting, Management, Marketing and Office Administration.

Marketing Major

The aims of this major are to:

1. enable students to critically assess the marketing environment from the point of view of both the marketer and the consumer.
2. train students to apply appropriate marketing skills in the workplace
3. help students to develop an understanding of the importance of marketing as a discipline and the application of the marketing concepts in the business context.
4. enable students to understand and demonstrate the interpersonal skills essential for effective marketing.

Office Administration Major

The aims of this major are to:

1. enable students to be more prepared to be on par with employers expectations in technology offices
2. assist students to develop a high level of efficiency in the technological office
3. train students to develop the required skills and attitudes for employment
4. equip students with skills required by modern day office administrators

Accounting and Management Major

The aims of this major are to:

1. provide students with the accounting and managerial skills required in today's technological businesses organizations
2. train students to develop the required skills and attitudes for employment
3. prepare students for supervisory positions in varied organizations
