ED 110 SE/ED101S
Psychology of Adolescence: 3 Cr. 3 Lec. 0 Lab.
This course is designed to give trainee teachers a better understanding of adolescent behaviour and to equip them to assist adolescents in their personal, social and emotional development. Topics include: the nature and scope of psychology, an overview of growth and development of children, adolescent behaviour, psychological changes during adolescent, and social problems of adolescents.

Psychology of Learning: 3 Cr. 3 Lec. 0 Lab.
This course aims to sensitize students to the psychological aspects of learning. It examines such topics as: learning and cognition, and the various theories and approaches to learning. A special unit on exceptionally is included to enable teachers to understand gifted children and also those with disabilities.

Curriculum Development: 3 Cr. 3 Lec. 0 Lab.
This course will provide student teachers with the fundamental principles and techniques needed to effectively plan or develop lessons, courses or curricula. The following specific areas will be covered: types of curricula, curriculum components, the nature of curriculum development, curriculum processes (situation analysis, aims and objectives, selection and organization of content, methods and evaluation), and factors influencing curriculum development.

Classroom Behaviour & Management: 3 Cr. 3
The primary aim of this course is to empower student-teachers to efficiently anticipate and manage problems that may arise in the classroom. Topics include: organizing the classroom, writing instructional objectives, maintenance of classroom discipline, and motivation. (Pre-requisite: second year standing)

Classroom Testing & Measurement: 3 Cr. 3 Lec. 0 Lab.
This course will provide student-teachers with the tools to develop a systematic approach to evaluating the work of students. Student-teachers will receive formal instruction in the fundamental and applied principles of testing and measurement along the lines of: the place of testing, measurement and evaluation in education, types of tests used in education, formulating objectives in the domains of learning, test construction, and administration and analysis of classroom tests. (Pre-requisite: second year standing)

Professionalism & Education Administration: 3 Cr. 3 Lec.
This course will examine issues relating to the teaching profession and the role of the teacher as a professional. Topics will include: concepts of profession and professionalism, teaching as a profession, regulations governing the teaching profession, teacher preparation, and organization and administration of teaching. (Pre-requisite: second year standing)

Education & Society: 3 Cr. 3 Lec. 0 Lab.
This course is designed to make student teachers aware of the raison d'etre of education and how it is interwoven into the social fabric. Themes to be addressed are: selected concepts in education, history and structure of education in Jamaica, and the school and society. (Pre-requisite: third year standing)

Technology in Education: 3 Cr. 3 Lec. 0 Lab.
This course will provide student-teachers with the skills needed to use technological aids in the teaching-learning situation. Topics to be covered are: introduction to educational technology and classroom communication, pictures and graphics, three dimensional teaching material, production of technological materials for instruction, the chalkboard, study display, audio recording and playback, still projection, and instructional radio/television. (Pre-requisite: third year standing)

Introduction to Research Methods: 3 Cr. 3 Lec. 0 Lab.
This course is specifically geared towards providing student teachers with an understanding of techniques and principles of research. Areas to be dealt with include: definition of research, types of research, the research process, collection and presentation of data, data analysis, and writing research proposals and reports. (Pre-requisite: third year standing)

LA 211 GE/LA111S
Reading in the Content Area: 3 Cr. 3 Lec. 0 Lab.
This course is designed for teachers to sensitize them to the existence of reading problems in general and specifically to those, which are peculiar to studying and learning in the specific fields of study. The course aims to develop greater understanding of the significance of reading. Particular regard is paid to how it relates to the role of the teacher in facilitating students in coping with the reading difficulties related to learning in the content area. (Pre-requisite second year standing)
