Fundraising Drive

Rationale & Objectives of our Fundraising Drive

The College needs to garner additional funds to supplement its traditional sources if it hopes to enjoy transformational developmental.  The urgent need to raise additional funds stems from the recognition on the part of the College that significant increases in government subvention and student fees - its traditional sources of funds – are unlikely, hence creative and innovative approaches must be utilized to raise funds for its development.  Therefore, the College is reaching out to you – whether you are one of its own graduates (whether you graduated from JSA, PGTC, COA or CASE), a business partner, a parent, a member of staff, or a friend of the College - for support.

Objectives of This Fundraising Initiative

  • To enhance the College’s academic programmes through the acquisition of tools of learning – equipment, technology, library books and resources, and equipping classrooms with the latest technology.
  • To seek financial assistance for students in the form of bursaries and scholarships.
To build new facilities in support of the College’s tripartite mission of teaching, research and outreach.

Ten Great Reasons for Giving to CASE

  1. 1.   CASE will spend your contributions in accordance with your wishes, and consistent with generally acceptable standards of accountability.
  2. CASE perpetuates the rich heritage, legacy and seminal achievements of the former Farm School which began in 1910, became the Jamaica School of Agriculture (JSA) in 1942, and College of Agriculture (COA) in 1982, as well as Passley Gardens Teachers’ College (PGTC), which opened in 1981.
  3. CASE is one of the Caribbean’s premier multi-disciplinary tertiary-level educational institutions.
  4. CASE’s over 1000 students are drawn primarily from the lower socio-economic strata of the Jamaican society.
  5. CASE’s students indicated, during recent surveys, that the qualitative and quantitative aspects of many of the College’s services and facilities had room for improvement.
  6. CASE is committed to providing its students with instruction and educational experiences of the highest quality, which are complemented by enriching and developmental co-curricular activities; adequate resources are needed to achieve these objectives.
  7. CASE offers programmes relevant to the social and economic development of Jamaica; graduates serve in all sectors of the economy.
  8. CASE has been designated a “Science College” by the MOEY&C, in recognition of the fact that it is through the routine and appropriate use of scientific knowledge, and the systematic application of scientific priorities to the development process that there will be significant advancement in Jamaica’s standard of living.
  9. CASE plays a pivotal role in assuring Jamaica’s Food Security.  The Faculty of Agriculture, in particular, provides the human resources and research outputs to facilitate this.
  10. CASE is committed to public service and wants to be the resource called upon by the government, industry, and others, for planning, research, policy development, implementation and community empowerment.

What Are Our Critical Needs?

The college is committed to providing students with instruction and educational experiences of the highest quality, which are complemented by enriching and developmental co-curricular activities.  To achieve this, an adequate “incubator of learning” (services and facilities) must be provided and for which additional funds must be raised.  Feedback received from students during surveys conducted recently indicated that they were dissatisfied with the qualitative and quantitative aspects of many of the College’s services and facilities.

In addition, arising from a recent accreditation visit to the college by a team from the University Council of Jamaica, the National Accreditation Body, several recommendations were made regarding improvements that are needed to deliver programmes of acceptable standards.  Harnessing additional funds for the College’s development, in the form of your donations, takes on added significance against this background.

Listed below are some of the critical areas for which funding is needed:

  • Expanding and improving the West Campus Library, and refurbishing the East Campus Library (the roof currently leaks).
  • Constructing a Multi-Purpose Auditorium suitable for holding examinations and official functions
  • Improving the appearance of the College Entrance
  • Constructing a Gymnasium/Multi-Purpose Recreation Centre
  • Constructing outdoor lounging areas for students
  • Constructing and equipping a state-of-the-art 100 unit Computer Lab
  • Constructing and equipping a Foods Laboratory
  • Constructing of new office suite to house the Directorate of Student Affairs and the Student Council Offices
  • Constructing of a modern Health Centre
  • Installing a modern telephone system
  • Capital for commercial farm operations
  • Fencing the boundaries of the College property
  • Constructing additional office space for Lecturers
  • Improving the acoustics, aesthetics and comfort of the existing Lecture Theatre
    Refurbishing of the Beach House
  • Enhancing our teaching/learning environments
  • Constructing of Multi-Purpose Courts and resurfacing of the Playfield
